Show people what you've done. When possible, send your portfolio/personal website/github. Don't rely only on a traditional resume.
Resumes are outdated, but people still ask for them. Here are some examples of resumes you can use:
Good resume templates:

- You can find your own template. The small cost is worth it.
Tip: You don't need to add your picture, it's up to you.
Pro Tips:
- Remove useless things (like being a lifeguard, or math tutor). No Fluff.
- Focus on high value things.
- Make it 1 page (max 2 pages if you really need to).
- Have an projects section and outline things you've done. Ideally link articles/projects.
- When you send your resume, also include things like your personal website, portfolio, github, LinkedIn, etc...
