Purpose:
You want to give background information before having a meeting with a legit person. They don't have much time, so they probably know little about you. Legit people also want to know why they are spending time with you. What's the purpose of the call/meeting? In your email, you want to:
- Legitimize yourself
- Show that you're enthusiastic about the industry
- Demonstrate that you've put in the work
- Clearly outline the main priorities for the call/meeting
