I noticed that many people were doing explore modules wrong. Yep, there’s a wrong way to do explore modules. All your life you’ve been trained to remember information for a test. That’s not the point of an explore module - there is no test at the end!
Explore modules shouldn’t take you a long time to complete. This is just the very beginning of your journey into the topic, and it’s likely that you’ll only remember 10-20% of it by the end. That’s ok! After doing an explore module, you’ll know about something that most people have never heard of and the knowledge of that area might intersect with other topics you explore, which can lead to interesting ideas - for example, using machine learning in healthcare.
Here’s how people do explore modules wrong:
❌ Only do an explore module when they’re at their desk and have no distractions.
❌ Watch the videos at 1x speed.
❌ Take notes on everything.
❌ Overthink which explore module to do.
It will take forever to finish an explore module this way (it’s so bad I had to make a playbook on it!).
The right way to do an explore module:
✅ Go through the explore module whenever you have a bit of time, like when you’re eating, in transit, or taking a walk (you don’t need to be at your laptop to do an explore module!).
✅ Watch explore modules on 1.5-2x speed. YouTube allows you to change the speed setting, so learn how to get comfortable with faster speeds. Life hack.
✅ Replace scrolling on Insta/TikTok with Explore Modules. If you’re binging Netflix, open up TKS.life and do an explore module instead.
✅ Instead of taking notes, add the things that were most interesting into your tweet storm.
✅ Do the introduction to the explore, and if you have very little interest in the topic, then do a different explore. Don’t force yourself to learn about something you have zero interest in.
Major 🔑: This isn’t school! Remember that you’re interested in learning about these topics, so go into an explore module with curiosity and excitement. You should enjoy learning about this stuff.
Success after doing explore modules:
- It sparks an interest that leads to starting a Focus.
- Focuses are where the real learning happens. You learn by DOING, not watching.
- You build your “T” by exposing yourself to new topics - breadth of knowledge (horizontal).
- When you do a Focus, you’ll build your depth of expertise (vertical).
Lastly, if you REALLY want to crush explore modules, here’s a great video.
🤣
Ok now go do an explore module.
